Is Greenwich Village and the West Village the same thing?

Well, the names are often used interchangeably, but the West Village is really the more western part of Greenwich Village. There is no strict dividing line, however. Some would say west of 7th Ave., others west of 6th Ave. Though, I’d guess it’s realtors who are stretching the border to 6th Ave., since the West Village is a slightly more desirable location than The Village in general.
