Is Greenland green? Do they have seasons?
Greenland is definitely a misnomer. Greenland, the world’s largest island and a colony of Denmark, is located in the northwest Atlantic just east of Canada. Greenland is 80% uninhabitable because almost the whole island is covered by ice sheets. It is also very cold most of the year, hence, there really isn’t much in the way of a change of seasons. It’s believed Greenland was so named by the Vikings 1,000 years ago when they settled Iceland. They tried to discourage more newcomers to Iceland by giving that country its cold-sounding name and encouraging people to go to Greenland by giving that island its “faux” name.
