Is gravity a consequence of geometry or caused by exchange of gravitons?
Einstein’s General Relativity theory describes gravity in terms of a curvature of space which causes masses to fall toward each other, much as objects on a tightly stretched sheet would roll downhill toward the most massive object. In an alternative approach, the “standard model” of quantum field theory explains various forces in terms of the interaction of particle-like entities. In the electromagnetic spectrum, it’s photons. With strong and weak nuclear force, it’s gluons and bosons. Extending this same model to gravity, in an attempt to build a unified theory of forces and fields, gravitons are theorized, but have not been observed/confirmed. Some sources say that a graviton (if it exists at all) would be a type of boson.
