Is Grahm Street still in Kenmore Square?
The street is still there of course, but in the 1980’s the City of Boston removed the Grahm name and changed it back to Kenmore Street. Since the Square was named after the street, it seemed the appropriate thing to do. On a side note, Sears Roebuck and Co. had a major New England distribution Center located a few blocks up from the Square on Brookline Avenue. According to the Sears web page, their famous Kenmore appliance line may have been named after the nearby Hotel Kenmore, where the Sears Execs used to hold their business meetings back in the 30’s. Coincidentally, there is a Kenmore Avenue in Chicago near Sears world headquarters.
