The middle ages – also known as medieval times spanned the 5th to the 15 th centuries .Place and date are important. Art historians divided this period into eight stylistic movements among them Byzantine and Gothic, some of this art, like early Christian art (Rome and Europe), or Byzantine – Greece and the Orient were produced in particular centres. The Monreale mosaics (late 13th c.) are Byzantine (the Byzantine period dates from the 4th century until the Fall of Constantinople in 1453.
