Is Good Housekeeping magazine printed on recycled paper?
There is limited availability of post-consumer recycled paper that is appropriate for magazine printing, so we have focused on using as much paper from sustainable forests as possible in the printing of our magazine every month. Our parent company, Hearst Magazines, has reduced paper consumption by 7,000 tons over the last three years. At the end of 2008, 70% of the paper Hearst sourced came from forests that are being sustainably managed under third party audit procedures for certifying forestry practices. The interim goal for 2009 is 80%. In addition, Hearst Magazines: • Is housed in the first Gold LEED Certified office building in New York City • Owns and operates The Daily Green, a consumer-oriented news and service Web site that helps people live a more earth-friendly lifestyle • Promotes the increased use of certified fiber for the production of magazine paper. • Promotes the recovery of magazines by supporting the MPA “Please Recycle” initiative. • Participates in Recycling Maga
