Is global warming a crisis?
Global warming is real, but not a crisis on the time scale of decades or even one century. Skeptics will say that it’s a political issue only, but the same science that allows us to predict the weather with reasonable accuracy says it’s real. They’ll tell you that the earth’s climate is cyclical, which is true, but they won’t listen to any concerns of us not being where we should be on the cycle. They’ll talk about ice ages, and how it doesn’t “seem warm” outside, but they haven’t really read anything on the topic. They’re passing judgement on a subtle scientific phenomenon using macroscopic human observation. The economic equivalent could be “I can still buy a gallon of milk for less than $3, so we’re not in a crisis. I don’t see what the big deal is”. The reason we should be addressing it now, is that this type of damage takes a long time to fix. If we take corrective action now, it won’t be a problem down the road.
