Is Giving a Bonus to a Real Estate Agent a Bad Idea?
As a Realtor, during tough times, receiving a bonus when selling a property seems exciting, and that could lead to showing one property over another. A bonus to a real estate agent could also be a bad thing, and it is something that both a buyer and seller must understand. During tough times all real estate agencies are looking at various manners to save and make more money. Receiving a bonus is one of those items that many agents are looking for, but there are problems. In the past when a bonus was offered it normally was around $1,000; today the average bonus that I have noticed being offered in the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) right now is $5,000 and that creates a series of problems. First of all, I believe that such a bonus must be disclosed to a potential buyer, as it is the buyer who will actually be paying the bonus.
