Is getting a transmission flush on a 2000 Nissan Maxima a top priority?

Do not get the flush. Get the transmission service which is the same price – About $100. That’s where they drop the pan and change the filter. That is all you need for the next 30,000 miles. This also changes more than half the fluid in the transmission. A question for you… Are you having troubles with your transmission? You can check the condition of the fluid by pulling the dipstick which is red at the handle. The condition of the fluid should be red and not dripping like water because transmission fluid wears down and gets thinner and doesn’t lubricate as well. Also, make sure the level is right. I have a ’95, same drivetrain and the level was a little higher than it was supposed to be. If you don’t know how to check the level, read your manual or get someone else to make sure it is right. If you’re getting this vehicle used, get the drop pan service. It certainly won’t hurt anything and if you have had this vehicle for more than 30,000 miles, it’s recomended maintenance.
