Is fuel cells are non conventional energy sources?
Fuel-cells convert the stored up chemical energy of fuels directly to electricity and the conversion efficiency is reportedly very high. So an automotive using fuel cell can run much more on the same quantity of fuel and save fuel. Besides, theoritically they could use non-conventional fuels such as ethanol, methanol, LNG, Hydrogen and the like. In this way, fuel-cells can be used as efficient energy conversion devices using even non-conventional fuels. They are energy conversion devices of great potential under development and are likely to hit the markets in a great way in the near future. But in the correct sense, they are not a source of primary energy.
