Is Foxton Locks The Best Visitor Attraction In Leicestershire?
9 March 2006 This week, listeners to 105.4FM Leicester Sound will get the chance to vote for Leicestershire’s Foxton Locks in a campaign by the radio station to find the county’s ‘Best Visitor Attraction’. The picturesque waterway location, one of the county’s most popular tourist destinations, has been nominated as part of Leicester Sound’s ‘Best of Leicestershire Awards 2006’. The other nominees for ‘Best Visitor Attraction’ will be revealed on Thursday (9 March), when listeners will be able to log on to www.leicestersound.co.uk and vote for their favourite. Owned and cared for by British Waterways, Foxton Locks is famous for its staircase lock flight, a masterpiece of 19 th century engineering that raises boats a massive 75ft up the hill from Market Harborough, and the remains of the Foxton Inclined Plane Boat Lift, another great feat of engineering which opened in 1900.
