Is Fire in the Sky Really Based on a True Story?
The 1993 Blockbuster Smash ‘Fire in the Sky’ claims to be based on the true events of Travis Walton and his friends in rural Arizona. The movie portrays the daily trials and tribulations of Travis and his associates, and eventually how this is all turned on its head by his apparent abduction. Travis remained missing for two weeks, before reappearing in good health. But how close is the movie to the actual event that happened? How much of it was Hollywood Cinema Technique, and how much of it was the truth of the matter? The first thing that can be said for sure, is that Travis, and his friends, did indeed exist. They were involved in a logging contract with the government in the Sitgreaves forest, outside of Snowflake, Arizona.
