Is feminism responsible for the breakdown of the family, like a Vatican document has claimed?
The family is not an automobile, it does not “breakdown”. Thanks to feminism, women aren’t forced to stay in abusive marriages as much as they used to be. Women can claim welfare, there is a lot of support for single mothers, abusive husbands who’s wives have run away can’t sue them into coming back for ‘missing out on conjugal rights’. Not only has feminism improved ‘the family’ tenfold from what it used to be, it has launched several new schools of philosophical thought and has contributed greatly to academia in general. Criticism of feminism is more often than not based on false principles.
No I don’t think feminism is responsible – I think that people growing up and realising that time and people and the earth have changed, are changing and will continue to change and that outmoded concepts and ideas should be done away with. I believe that the Vatican is still trying to deal with religion and people as it has done in the past and for the past how every many hundreds of years. It just doesn’t work like that anymore. I believe they are trying to retain a status quo that no longer exists and cannot be supported anymore. No, don’t ask me what to replace it with – I think that we should each start taking some responsibility for our futures and our actions. Stop blaming others, ideas, or whatever for what we think is wrong and start moving beyond that and making it right and better. No, don’t ask me what is right or better. I don’t know either – but I continue to think about it and plan for it and I am prepared to move forward and not continue to look back at something I can
