Is feminism really about victimization?

Victimization isn’t what feminism is all about, but if you argue that victimization occurs by a society then all members of society are victims. The only thing that makes people differ is if they are able to overcome societies injustices.

No. Feminism is really about equal opportunities for both sexes. In regards to whether men are also victims of patriarchy… Yes, if a boy/man does a traditional female activity (ie playing with dolls, househusband, nurse, etc.), many consider that he is lowering himself. The “insult” is to call him a girl or gay, since many consider girls and gays to be inferior. Just as not all women are at their best in a traditional gender role, neither are all men.

That quote makes sense. But the reason that feminist said it wasn’t for the reason that you probably think. What I mean is that this person believes that men are almost “programmed” (For lack of a better word) to continue living in the patriarchal society at the expense of their own individuality or whatever. I think if we choose to be victims, then we will be. I tried to be all hardcore feminist five years ago and I ended up feeling pissed off all the time. It’s easier to just be happy. I don’t understand why people would want to talk about being “victims” to feminism, masculinism, whatever…. if you want to throw yourself a pity party because your life sucks, please do it in the privacy of your own home and quit writing stupid @$$ books about it. *** *** not YOU, the questioner… You referring to all the poor innocent victims.

Feminism isn’t about being a victim or making someone else a victim. It’s about the power and will to be anything a man can – from pornstar to stock trader!

In some ways, yes. What feminism seeks to do is encourage people to change the system and stop being victims, not accept their status as such and wallow in it.
