Is female circumcision allowed in Islam?
Female circumcision is not allowed in Islam, as it leaves the woman in constant pain. Unlike the male circumcision that helps keep the penis clean, facilitates cleanliness in that area and does not leave the man in pain for the rest of his life, female circumcision has no health benefits to it and only causes pain. There is a Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad that is regarded as weak, which says that if you have to perform it, then only remove the smallest amounts from around the vagina. This was because in Africa where it is a cultural thing to circumcise girls, the Muslims living there could not break completely away from their culture.
