Is felt an environmentally friendly fabric?
Felt origionated a long time ago with the origional cloth makers. Back in the day when cotton or wool was washed and dyed by hand, felting was the by product of over working the fabric. Fabric makers would notice this outcome by their workers over agitating the wool or cotton. In modern day, felt comes in many forms, so it depends on what ‘form’ of felting you’re referring to. The felt you purchase in the craft store that is known as crafting felt is mechanically agitated fibers, which I wouldn’t say is enviromentally friendly based on the fact that this fabric has to go through a long process to become felt. However, if you wanted to you could felt an old sweater or shirt on your own fairly easily. You simply throw it in with you wash and leave it in there for 15-20 cycles every time you do a load. It’s not really consuming extra energy, but you could say it is taking the space of another garment of clothing in your load. The end result of this would be a felt like texture to your old
