Is fall a good time to prune trees?
For most trees a good rule of thumb to follow is do not prune when the leaves are coming or going. In addition, many disease spores are present in autumn and can easily enter pruning cuts. (One exception is the flowering dogwood. Because of the problem with anthracnose which is present in the spring, dogwoods should be pruned in the fall). Always remember to make proper pruning cuts and Never Top Trees. For more information about tree pruning and care, try the National Arbor Day Foundation website: http://www.arborday.
