Is fairness an irrelevant concept in politics?

It is and always has been. The problem is that government is now politics and not policy. That is why traditionally government law making was done behind closed doors outside of the purview of politics. In an era when all the news from yesterday was given to us the next morning, this was easy to achieve. Now with 24 hr cable news and the internet we need information NOW. This leads to us demanding we know everything that are representatives are doing. Because of this politics instead of lawmaking is the role of government officials. And fairness has no place in the zero sum game of politics.
