Is fair weather an inspirational awakening to the muse of poetry?
parkerlee Teacher eNotes Editor According to Greek mythology, the nine Muses were the daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne, the goddess of memory. Four of these were directly related to poetry: Calliope – Goddess of epic poetry Euterpe – Goddess of lyrical (musical) poetry Erato- Goddess of love poetry Polyhymnia – Goddess of sacred poetry Fair or foul weather could be a source of inspiration for poetry, as can be seen in Sylvia Plath’s poem “Black Rook in Rainy Weather.” I found no reference to fair weather (or foul) as being ‘inspirational’ as such for the Muses of poetry listed above.
