Is everyone who wears an orange shirt or vest an NDOT worker?
No. They may be city, county or private workers. Others may be local, state, or federal officials. NDOT dies its own maintenance work, but for new or reconstructed roads, we hire private contractors-most of whom wear identical “safety orange” clothing as do state workers. To identify NDOT employees, look for orange “button type” shirts with patches displaying the NDOT logo and the worker’s name. Our trucks have “DOT” stamped on the state license plate, and say “Department of Transportation” on the doors. Safety is of prime concern, and orange hats, vests, or shirts are required wear by everyone working at or visiting a job site.
