Is every student required to “go for the IB diploma”?
No, here’s how it works. All MYP and IB Prep students (ninth and tenth grade) will be required to take five IBPrep/MYP or equivalent academic subjects both years – English, second language, social studies, math, and science. (It is possible to drop certain MYP/IB Prep classes upon consultation with the coordinators.) MYP/IB Prep students can receive individual counseling by the IB coordinator on making future choices during their sophomore year. At that point, students choose their own level of IB for the remaining two years – from just one class to the Diploma Program. There is not any selection process for entering the Diploma Program. Anyone who wishes is free to try, and, once made, the decision is not binding, but support is given throughout.
