Is Evanston a good place to live?
Evanston is a great place to live. It’s part of an area called the North Shore which consists of a lot of nice suburbs along the lake (Wilmette, Winnetka, Highland Park, etc.) Evanston is fairly safe. The western side of Evanston is a little more dangerous as are the areas that border the city (near Howard Street). Incidents do occur in other parts of the town as well, but overall, safety isn’t much of an issue. It’s not as boring as it used to be. There’s been a lot of development over the last six to eight years which has brought a lot of condos, shops and restaurants to the downtown. But it’s still a suburb. The nice thing is that you can get into the city by car in about 20-30 minutes depending on traffic and you have easy access to public transportation so you can ride the train into downtown as well. Evanston is expensive because of it’s proximity to the lake and the city. Condo prices are close to what you’d pay in the city and a decent house in a decent neighborhood will cost y
