Is eugenics related to epigenetics?
Eugenics and epigenetics are not interrelated. The term eugenics is derived from Greek and means ‘well born’ or ‘good breeding’. Its concept was first formulated by Charles Darwins cousin Sir Francis Galton in 1865, although he didn’t use the term eugenics until 1883. Eugenics is a social philosophy which advocates the supposed improvement of human hereditary qualities. Proposed means of doing so have included (but are not limited to) birth control, selective breeding, genetic engineering, racial hygiene, and even extermination.
