Is eTV doing something about the price of gas?
The price of gas is a hot topic but it is a complex issue. Transport Canada is not responsible for fuel prices or the various surcharges placed on fuel. But as part of the Government of Canada’s ecoACTION Plan on Climate Change and Air Pollution, Transport Canada is undertaking a number of measures, including ecoTECHNOLOGY for Vehicles (eTV) and ecoAUTO, that can help Canadians reduce their fuel consumption. The goal of the eTV Program is to test the effectiveness and safety of advanced environmental technologies for vehicles and share the result with Canadians, helping them to make informed decisions about the cars they drive. As well, Canadian drivers looking to lower their fuel bills by buying a new fuel-efficient vehicle may be eligible for a rebate under the ecoAUTO Program. Information on the government’s role in regulating gas prices can be found on the Competition Bureau’s website.
