Is EnerGuide 80 the target of the 2010 Code change?
This code change will be designed to enable energy performance equivalent to EnerGuide 80 when combined with the minimum equipment performance specified in the Energy Efficiency Act. However, it will be based primarily on performance targets for the thermal resistance and air tightness of the building envelope. The EnerGuide rating system considers a broader range of variables. There will be three paths to compliance: • a prescriptive path that outlines specific measures for a typical/standard home; • a performance path that relies on energy modelling or calculation to achieve the desired level of energy performance, by varying envelope elements such as insulation, windows and air tightness; and • 3rd party certifications, one of which will be an Energuide 80 label.
