Is enamel on steel cookware safe for cooking?
Cookware with enamel can come in two versions, including enamel on steel and enameled cast iron. Basically, enamel is a non-reactive, nonstick coating on top of an interior metal (like steel or cast iron) that gives it a shiny, often colored surface that makes cleanup easier because these pieces are typically safe for the dishwasher. Enamel also keeps the core metal from leaking into your food when heated. Enamel cookware is approved by the FDA.
