Is embryo selection good or bad for the future coming?

Embryo selection is when scientists take eggs out of the mother and fertilize them in a testing dish, then after they grow a little, the scientist test the embryo for the desired or undesired characteristics. They throw the embryos with the things not wanted away, then put the ones with what is wanted back in to the mother, and i want to know if this is going in a positive direction, or if it is a bad thing.
