Is Electrolysis safe?
Electrolysis has a 120 year history of safety and effectiveness. I am not aware of one case of significant disease being caused or transmitted because of electrolysis. Modern well-trained electrologists utilize the most up-to-date effective methods of sterilization, disinfection and antisepsis, and follow guidelines set up by a major electrolysis organization in conjunction with the CDC (Center of Disease Control). Don’t hesitate to ask your electrologist about the scientific methods he/she uses to guarantee your safety.
Yes! The skin is not punctured or harmed in any way, and the entire procedure causes minimal discomfort, depending on individual sensitivity. In only the most unusual cases will you even feel the hair leave the skin. Healing after treatment is usually rapid with no signs remaining on your skin. You may have a temporary redness, but it will quickly disappear. Basically, if you have ever tweezed or waxed, you should accept electrolysis very easily.
Absolutely! You are your own best advocate. When contacting a professional Electrologist, I encourage you to ask plenty of questions. First, you should inquire if the Electrologist holds membership in the state’s professional association, The New York Electrolysis Association, an affiliate of the American Electrology Association. Second, you should ask if the Electrologist adheres to the American Electrology Association’s Standards of Practice and Infection Control Standards. This is your assurance that universal precautions are being taken in the professional’s office. Next, you should ask if the Electrologist attends continuing education events to improve and enhance her knowledge and skills. Finally, up to date, state-of-the art equipment is advised for enhanced electrolysis treatment comfort. Unlike other temporary methods of hair removal, Electrolysis is safe for all areas of the body with the exception of hairs inside the nasal cavity or inside the ears. Finally, up to date, stat
YES, electrolysis has been safely and effectively used for over 130 years. The following methods are enforced: • Individual, sterile, disposable probes are used for each treatment. • Instruments are cleaned with an ultrasonic cleaning unit and dry heat sterilization. • Disposable nitrile or vinyl gloves are used. Our office is latex free. • We strictly follow infection control standards as recommended by the American Electrology Association (AEA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Association for Practitioners in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC).
