Is Edinburgh following the same route as Glasgow?
Glasgow has transferred about 80,000 homes to Glasgow Housing Association and some of the press reports about that transfer have not been very complimentary. In Edinburgh, we have a much smaller number of homes (25,000) and they are in much better condition. The challenge facing Edinburgh is therefore very different to that which Glasgow faced. Another big part of our package is the provision of extra affordable housing – once we have the land and resources to build new homes this is a relatively straight forward thing to achieve. So, on the whole, Glasgow and Edinburgh are very different situations and we are confident that we will be able to deliver on our promises.
