Is Eddie Levert going Gospel?
By P. Ann Everson Price Is Eddie Levert finally going gospel? Too late, he actually already did. Yes, you read the headline correctly. Eddie Levert has decided to lend his husky voice and an incomparable baritone to the new gospel compilation project “I’ve Been Saved.” The singer, known for leading R&B hits like “I Love Music,” “Love Train,” and “Backstabbers,” among others, is joining the crew of artists petitioned for the WKM (We Know Music) collection of gospel songs. Levert’s contribution to the lineup is featured on the single “Why,” an emotional yet uplifting song that deals with the spiritual exploration of loss. Think of it as Levert’s sonic delivery of the experiences he’s had to endure after losing his sons Gerald and Sean within a year of each other. Additional guests on the compilation include Najee, vocalist Mary Griffith, Zacardi Cortez and Hope Lester who was recently featured on the Bobby Jones Gospel Hour. The project includes 12 original compositions and three covers.
