Is earths orbit closer to that of venus or to that mars?
Hubble, which orbits earth will see mars and earth at it’s closest proximity for many moons this year, at a possible distance 36 million miles (including martian moons = 21 million miles) opposed to Venus of 23 million miles. It’s called Perihelion, the opposite of Aphelion, at a time it’s closest to the sun. The answer is Mars, as although Venus is closest as a planet, we share a similar orbital path to Mars, but Mars orbits the sun every 16 years or so opposed to our lunar calendar of once. Clever, isn’t it. What the avatar Morningf has failed to provide is, in terms of Delta vee – The martian moons of Mars are closer by 15 million miles than the planet itself of 36 million miles, which bring it as near as 21 million miles from earth. Whereby Venus has no moons, but does align with the earth and sun on 8 occasions per annum.
