Is Earth to the Dandy Warhols a reaction to Odditorium?
Probably, because everything is more concise and song-oriented. Every record that we’ve done has always seemed a little out of time. Like, it was not the right time for it. It’s always seemed like, two or three years later if it had come out then it would have been perfect. I’m not saying we’re three years ahead of time, but… Odditorium to a certain extent kind of predicted all the jam stuff like Wolfmother. I mean, that stuff was happening at the same time, I don’t feel like we caused it, but it definitely came out a little ahead. Earth to the Dandy Warhols was our first record that kind of felt a little dated when it came out. I don’t know what it is. The whole process of making the record it was like, “Great, this is gonna be awesome,” but then it came out and we were like, “Dammit, we missed.” It was a weird time for us because it was supposed to be our last record for Capitol and that’s kind of what we were thinking. Half of the songs were old ideas that had never been completed a
