The benefits realized by DSM-CC for set top boxes such as, U-N Configuration, small footprint session control and lightweight download, in order to cope with their limited resources, can equally benefit PC desktops or PCTVs, devices such as Network Computers and devices such as Web-TVs. DSM-CC adds negligible overhead to such devices. DSM-CC is also used in cable modems as defined in DAVIC 1.2 specification for broadband Internet access.
