It need not be, but that depends very much on a lot of factors, including age, intellect, motivations, etc. These forms of activity are forbidden Catholics because they basically show a lack of trust in God’s providence, and because they manifest what can be an unhealthy curiosity about the future, or other elements of reality we cannot control. Thus, they divert us from the present moment (and God who is its source and ground) which really deserves our full attention, and focus on that which is not, and may never be. As Catholics, we trust that God provides (and has provided in Christ) ultimately for our future and well-being. Keeping this in mind, and remaining aware of God’s presence in our lives, we should be able to live life on its own terms without over-concern regarding what is going to happen tomorrow.
