Is discrimination on the grounds of national origin OK?

Discriminating on the basis of national origin is one thing; on the basis of immigration status quite another. There is no obligation for a U.S. employer to hire a non resident (yes, I know you “have” a green card, but until you’re here in the U.S., you’re not really a resident) or even a non resident of the State. For that matter, they can give preference to people from their own state/region as they say, something that State colleges and universities already do in their different tuition rates for in-state, out-of-state, and foreign students.

Now if you applied in the EU – you would have had a case against discrimination as the EU has a very open door policy for citizens of its EU zone. In America the same applies if you are a national of one of their 52 states, if not you are in the same boat as people from Nigeria of Mexico when they try and get work in the UK. In the UK we do allow a lot more diversity than that in the US and are less selfish but….
