Is designer baby concept in any way related to cloning?
Designing children is a pretty broad category. It could involve human cloning but generally doesn’t. Designer baby is a concept where genes in the human genome are altered in such fashion that it allows the parents to chose traits like eye color, hair color, heights, general built, perhaps even IQ level. All human traits are a direct function of how a gene or genes in the genome (between 20 and 30 thousand genes) get expressed. Designing children more directly involves using genetic engineering techniques to manipulate certain genes in the developing embryo’s genome. These modified genes may or may not get passed on to another generation after the engineered child matures and reproduces. If two parent carries recessive genes for a particular disease and happen to pass them along to their offspring; if it can be screened and caught in the early embryonic stages, it is possible that genetic engineering could be implimented to correct the genetic defect before it could cause probelms for
