Is Depression Self Help Enough to overcome depression?
With longer-term depression you have often lost interest in many of your usual activities. You may have stopped pursuing avocations such as sports or hobbies and have perhaps even stopped working. You may go out less often with friends, who eventually stop extending invitations. Shopping can be chore, so the refrigerator is empty and diet becomes unhealthy. This, together with lack of exercise, results in lower energy level and less restful sleep. Perhaps you are stopped attending church or synagogue, dropped out of clubs, stopped gardening or volunteering, or going to sports or cultural events. You gradually lose touch with the people, places, and things that had been sources of pleasure and satisfaction and kept you involved in the world. Im so lonely! Eventually, the structure of your life becomes dilapidated, even bleak. A vicious cycle has been set up: the symptoms of depression have resulted in an environment that makes the depression worse. One day is just like the next; with no
