Is dental decay hereditary?
No. Dental decay is not hereditary but you can certainly be born with weak teeth. However, the bacteria responsible for caries (cavities) is transmissible. Parents who have high cavity rates can give the bacteria to their children via the saliva. We have procedures and products that can slow or stop the cavities.
