Is cyclone at six flags new england the roughest roller coaster ever made?

This ride is rough, but isn’t too bad. I was able to re-ride several times. The roughest coaster I have ridden is Texas Giant, at Six Flags Over Texas. This ride is actually going to be closed for a year or so for a major makeover! This ride used to be one of my favorites, but it just got rougher and rougher over the years until it became intolerable and almost not rideable anymore. The weather, heat, and such can affect a wooden coaster. Over the years, it can become more and more rough. During a particularly hot and dry season, a woodie may be rougher than normal. The smoothness of a ride depends on the trains sometimes, and how the trains travel the track. If there is a great deal of ‘shuffling’, then the ride will be shaky and rough.

All wooden coasters are extremely rough unless they are recent ones made by Great Coasters International (GCI) or Intamin AG. Those two employ various new technologies to make the rides on their wooden coasters smooth. As for the rest, like Cyclone, the rough rides tends to be worse the faster, and hence taller, the wooden coaster is. That would make Son of Beast at Kings Island the roughest coaster there is at 218 feet tall. Cyclone is 112 feet tall, so take the discomfort you felt on that one and multiply it by two and that’s about how much you suffer on Son of Beast. It’s so rough in fact that Kings Island closed it early this season due to yet another serious injury that occurred during a ride and there is speculation that it may be torn down before the 2010 season starts.
