Is cutting and pasting bible quotes to provide vague answers a breach of copyright?

Some specific translations are under copyright, but you are still allowed to use them for free in any non- commercial situation so long as they are referenced. The bible right next to me is the NLT translation, and it says that when it is quoted (in a book etc), you must also display one of the written copyright notices (they have three options there depending on how you’ve used it). When it is quoted in “nonsaleable media”, quotes can be used so long as “NLT” follows it, except quotes over 500 verses, which require written permission from the publisher. But then some translations are out of copyright.
