Is Cuba looking for tie-ups in education and training?
Cubans enjoy free and universal education, and health services. Over the past 37 years, the country has graduated more than half a million university students. The average level reaches 9 grades of general or technical education. We are interested in setting up special universities and training institutes with the co-operation of India. Health care is another area where there can be joint ventures between the two countries. We want to have an exchange programme where doctors from the two countries can go on exchange programmes. Even in the area of infotech, we are keen to have expertise exchange. There is not much job oppourtunity for the Indian engineers in Cuba, however, all depends on the requirements of the companies based there. Until recently, the government provided all jobs.
