The woman arrested in Dirk Nowitzki’s home in Dallas appeared before a Beaumont judge today, saying she has no money to fight theft charges. Cristal Ann Taylor is scheduled to return to the courtroom of Jefferson County Criminal District Judge John B. Stevens Jr. in three weeks. Taylor, a 37-year-old ex-stripper, is accused of defrauding a dentist in Beaumont out of more than $10,000 owed for dental work. She was arrested on two outstanding warrants earlier this month at Nowitzki’s Preston Hollow home. Taylor, dressed in a blue jail jumpsuit and shackled in handcuffs, was returned to jail in Beaumont after her court appearance. Neither she nor her court-appointed attorney, Donald Duesler of Beaumont, made any public comments. In response to a query from the judge, Taylor said she understood the charge against her. Asked by Stevens if she had any money or property to hire an attorney, she softly replied, “No.” Stevens then asked Duesler to continue representing her for the time being. D

She was indicted in 2006 on a theft of services charge for failing to pay a Beaumont dentist for work done in 2004. Taylor was arrested May 6 at Nowitzki’s Dallas mansion. A judge in Beaumont today asked her to list the name that’s on her birth certificate. She responded it was Crista Ann Taylor — spelling it for the judge. Taylor also said she has no money for an attorney, no income, no property and no savings. The judge appointed an attorney for her and reset arraignment for June 8.
