Is criminal rehabilitation a myth?
No. Its not a myth. I have seen criminals learning new skills in prison and working in after care homes. I have also seen those who finally leave the after care homes settling down to a normal life with whatever trade they learned and became proficient in. The mind change occurs when they gain proficiency in a trade other than crime.
No it is not a myth. It is not successful a great percentage of the time, but we sure don’t want to stop trying. Maybe the term habilitation could be used to explain that much of the work done needs to be educational to give the prisoners skills and knowledge so they will not have to revert to crime again. Many will continue in crime, but they need to have the chance to obtain the skills and attitudes which will help them become contributing members of society.
No it is not a myth. It depends on the criminal, if the person is sane but committed a crime and does not have personality disorders or mental health issues then yes the person can be rehabilitated but they need to be institutionalized and not incarcerated. If it is a serial killer without a mental health issue then unfortunately it is very difficult to rehabilitate them. Regards.
