Is Crescent City a good place to raise children?
Crescent City, from all I can tell about it, is an absolutely gorgeous area. It’s on some gorgeous coast of the Pacific Ocean, it’s just south of Oregon, it’s near Redwood National Park, and it’s named for a beautiful crescent-shaped harbor: The downsides of Crescent City are: • Prisoners. Crescent City proper has about 7500 residents. Pelican Bay State Prison has a population of about 3,600. It’s not a fun place, and you’re sure to get a slightly higher than usual ex-felon community. • Tsunamis. According to Wikipedia, Crescent City has had at least 17 Tsunamis in the last century. While that doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed to get hit by a giant, deadly wave, you’ll definitely want flood insurance. • Poverty. Crescent City is not a place where the wealthy hang out. Median household income is about $20,000. A third of the residents live below the poverty line. So it’s your call. Gorgeous natural splendor, but also prisoners whose money is swept away by tsunamis.
