Is Cremation allowed in Christianity?
It depends on the sect. The Catholic Church now allows cremation so long as the ashes are interred in consecrated ground. (I wonder, sometimes, if that’s so you still have to buy a grave site at their cemeteries.) I believe the argument was that the Lord would be unable to raise you from the dead on the last day if there is no body, but somebody finally realized just how absurd that notion is. I don’t know how other Christian sects view the matter.
Contrary to popular belief, cremation is allowed in Roman Catholicism — provided that the person doesn’t opt for it due to anti-Christian motives. What I mean by that is: a long time ago, people who opted for cremation often did so because they were renouncing the Catholic belief in the resurrection of the body. But today, as long as a person isn’t opting for cremation for that reason, it’s allowed. ..
Yes, cremation is allowed in Christianity. For example the Catholic Church permits cremation, provided that it does not demonstrate a denial of the resurrection of the body. The body is destroyed (only more slowly) by burial in the ground in any case so neither method affects the likelihood of a person meriting heaven. And besides, organ donation after death (as before it) is considered a good thing.
