Course development for full or part-time degree programs can be assigned to faculty members as part of their regular day load. Course development for full or part-time degree programs can be part of an existing Unit 1 instructor’s appointment. In such cases, where the University defines a need for Instructors to undertake an academic task beyond their teaching functions, (e.g. course development), Schools/Departments will define the course development responsibilities in terms of the number of semester hour equivalents of time it requires, and indicate this on the Unit 1 contract. The teaching maxima outlined in the Unit 1 collective agreement regarding semester hours does not apply in such cases. When course development is done by CUPE Unit 1 member during a time when he/she is not actively employed at Ryerson, by an “external” individual, or employee in another group, it can be treated as contract to purchase a product (goods instead of services).
