I have a multitude of mental disorders (Tourette’s, depression, anxiety, OCD, purging disorder) and moved to the UK a few years ago with letters from my doctor (in Sweden) saying I needed to continue treatment as soon as possible. I was told the waiting list for mental health help was over a year long (this was in Scotland) and my GP didn’t want to put any new cases on the waiting list unless they were emergencies. I changed doctors and was told the same thing. I ended up in A&E twice for my eating disorder and was admitted over a week each time, but received no further help or treatment. Eventually, I had to choose between staying in the UK or staying healthy, so I moved. Yes, there is help for it, but you probably won’t get it through the NHS. Tell your GP and see what s/he says. If you can afford a private doctor, it is your best option.
