IS COPYRIGHT LAW OBSOLETE?
When it comes to the Internet, you might think so. Copies of anything ranging from remarks and jokes to designs and documents can be distributed widely and cheaply. A report this summer from the U.S. Copyright Office says the Office has a long history of adapting to technological advances. The report concludes that the Copyright Office will be able to meet the challenge presented by new ways of using, creating, and duplicating original creations. I. Trotter Hardy, a professor of law at the College of William and Mary School of Law, who specializes in intellectual property law as it relates to copyright, computers, and other technologies, authored the report.
