Is controversy at east Saint John High School becoming a distraction for the football team?
At Friday night’s game against Destrehan, it was business as usual for the East Saint John Wildcats. There were no apparent signs of the controversy making headlines; but make no mistake Coach Larry Dautrieve’s resignation was a hot topic. “People are sad because “Coach Dough” is a real good coach and we love him,” student Tai Lennix said. Dautrieve resigned Friday under fire after making what some consider derogatory and racially insensitive remarks about the schools predominantly black football team. “We know some of the things shouldn’t have been said, shouldn’t have been said,” Ronald Delay said.” “He may say the wrong things, some people may take it the wrong way but he’s a good coach and he means well with what he does and what he says,” Rendell Delay said.
