Is Congress considering any legislation to solve the vaccine problem?
Yes, several lawmakers have introduced vaccine legislation in the last two years. For example, Sen. Mike DeWine, R-Ohio, introduced legislation last year that would alert the nation’s public health agencies when a company stops producing a vaccine and authorize the government to purchase and store a six-month supply of the vaccine as a hedge against shortages. In January, eight senators co-sponsored a bill that would allow the government to contract with flu vaccine manufacturers to guarantee a sufficient supply and would give vaccine makers a tax credit. Both bills are in committee.
